Save A Shoe. Pick up the Poo.

Unfortunately, many people who utilize public spaces do not clean up after their dogs, leaving a smelly minefield in their wake. Even worse, some gather the poop in bags but neglect to place those bags in the trash. Presented with the opportunity to solve this problem with a guerrilla-style installation, I began investigating current approaches and imagining new solutions. After determining that existing campaigns were ineffective, I decided to create an obstacle course of “dog bombs,” forcing people to acknowledge the logical consequences of leaving the poo behind. In order to insure that people would understand what they were interacting with, I created supporting signage.

After observing three different dog parks in my general vicinity, I selected the one with the most occurrences of left-behind feces—Grandview Park in southern Aurora. Measuring existing signage and sampling its color palette, I designed a sign which would coordinate with my intended installation and clarify the call to action.
